It would be difficult to discuss the entirety of how Moses was transformed by the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Volumes could be written.
In order to be brief, we will focus on 3 events at this time. They are as follows:
(1) Moses defended the 7 daughters of Reuel at a well of water (Exodus 2:15-21)
(2) Moses forsook Egypt for the Lord (Hebrews 11:24-27)
(3) Moses was sustained in his weakness by Aaron and Hur (Exodus 17:10-12)
Moses defends the 7 daughters of Reuel
After Moses fled from Egypt as a capital fugitive, he arrived at a well in the land of Midian.
Reuel, the priest from whom Moses would later on receive the priesthood, had seven daughters.
As his daughters went forth to draw water for their father’s flocks, shepherds came to drive their sheep away.
As Moses observed what was going on, he decided to do something about it. He got up, helped gather the sheep, and proceeded to water them.
Through this act of grace (service), Moses received grace.
He was invited into Reuel’s home for dinner, which led to him staying for 40 years and marrying Zipporah his daughter.
Moses forsook Egypt for the Lord
In the book of Hebrews it reads:
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Grace and Faith (humility) are the twin keys that unlock the powers of Heaven so that one can experience the transforming effects of the Atonement of Jesus Christ in their life.
It must have taken extraordinary faith for Moses to have forsaken the grandeur of Egypt for the squalor and the challenges that awaited him.
Having said that, Moses experienced the transforming power of the Atonement as a result of acting in faith. He married a women who also feared the Lord, he received the priesthood, and he became a mighty prophet of God.
Moses was sustained in his weakness by Aaron and Hur
During the battle between the children of Israel and Amalek, Moses went to the top of a hill overlooking the battlefield with Aaron and Hur.
When Moses would hold up his hands, Isreal would prevail. When Moses grew weary and let down his hands, Amalek prevailed.
Seeing this, Aaron and Hur sustained Moses in his weakness by holding up his hands until the going down of the sun so that Israel might prevail against their enemy.
In short, it was an act of grace by Aaron and Hur in serving Moses in his physical weakness that enabled two things to occur:
First, it allowed Moses to maintain his honor and his confidence in continuing to serve as the Lord’s anointed on the earth at that time.
Second, it allowed the armies of Israel to prevail against their enemy.
