09: What if God Greatly Desires All of Us?

What if we are all precious to our Father in Heaven?

What if He wants all of us to return to him, irrespective of sex, gender, nationality, race, religion, etc, etc.

What if we are all His jewels?

What if it makes Him sad and pains Him when we choose to reject Him and the greater light?

What if there is no delight in Heaven when souls have to face darkness, suffering, the chains of hell, or anything else heartbreaking or gut wrenching?

NOTES:

(1) Condemning others to hell is not something we should delight in, or feel superior to others about. This simply is not in harmony with the scriptures. God desires all to return to Him. Shouldn’t this be our desire also?

(2) We are Heavenly Father’s jewels. We are His treasure. Each and every single one of us. When we help to bring others to Christ, we are helping to reclaim His treasure. In short, as we love and serve those around us, we are laying for ourselves treasures in Heaven. The treasure this refers to is the soul that feels of His love and chooses to repent and return to the Father.

(3) “And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father. And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!” D&C 18:15-16

(4) One trap a person can fall into when they are zealous in keeping the commandments is that they can unwittingly start to see all others who do not keep the commandments as faithfully as they do as enemies, or as people who are less worthy of Heavenly Father’s love. Lucifer loves to use this trick in driving wedges that allow pride to germinate almost unnoticeably and imperceptibly. We must be aware of this trap. We are all Heavenly Fathers jewels … even those who are hard to love or are otherwise dealing with their own struggles in keeping His commandments.  We must see them for who they are … and not as they might appear at present. They are still His precious jewels. We must see them as He sees them … and help them to feel of His love so that they can experience the transformation that can only come through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

(5) When we see others who are less faithful as the enemy (or otherwise less worthy) … we ourselves can’t help but come to feel empty inside. When we see others for who they can become … and we love them and help them to come to feel of Heavenly Fathers love for them … we in time come to experience a fullness inside ourselves.

(7) A famous line in the musical Les Misérables reads “And remember the truth that once was spoken, to love another person is to see the face of God.” This line can have multiple meanings. First, as we love and serve others, we come to experience the divine and we become acquainted with our Father in Heaven. Second, as we love and serve others, we come to see them not as they currently are, but as they can become.
